Some cakes just look way too good to eat, they can often be a work of art!
We caught up with our friends from Ab Fab Cakes to find out some tips and tends in cakes for 2017.
What's the most popular cake trend you guys are seeing at the moment?
Semi-naked cakes are certainly all the rage. Couples are also loving adding a gold leaf tier or elements of gold which seems to be the way to go in 2017. Another major trend is the use of fresh flowers- we get brides that either love it or hate it. The hype on sugar flowers seems to be slowing dying down, especially with the availability or personalised toppers like; names, initials and Mr & Mrs.
What’s your most unusual cake flavour?
Lavender. Need I say more!
How far in advance should someone book in their cake?
As we have a team of Chefs on board, we can generally do anywhere up to 15 wedding cakes a week. However there has been occasions where a particular weekend is very popular and we do often get booked out. Best bet is to book in 3 to 6 months ahead of time.
If there is a particular company you wish to use place a deposit to lock in the date and the other details can be finalised later.
What’s the highest tiered cake you guys have made?
We made a cake recently that was 13 tiers. It stood over a metre tall!
What’s your specialty?
Weddings and corporate events. As Ab Fab Cakes has been around for over 18 years now, we have built a strong relationship amongst the many outstanding venues we see in Melbourne today. In saying this we do cakes for baby showers, birthdays, novelties and much, much more. I’m sure there’s not an occasion we haven’t made a cake for!!!
